George Washington’s Birthday at Ferry Farm

Monday, February 18 | 10am – 4pm | Ferry Farm – 268 Kings Hwy | Celebrate George Washington’s 287th birthday at his boyhood home with fun activities for the whole family, including games, crafts, exhibits, archaeology lab tours, living history demonstrations, the Stone Throw Challenge (weather permitting), history theater, and birthday cake. “General Washington” will attend the birthday celebration to talk about his youth on the farm! Washington Heritage Museums Presidents’ Day – Pay Half Price!

Monday, February 18 | 11am – 4pm | Visit Washington Heritage Museums’ sites (Hugh Mercer Apothecary, Rising Sun Tavern and Mary Washington   House) in honor of Presidents’ Day and receive half-price standard admission rates during normal business hours. Exclusions apply to Heritage Passes.

Presidents’ Day: Civil War Driving Tour

Monday, February 18 | 1pm – 3pm |Leaves from the Visitor Center
A special battle of Fredericksburg tour with an emphasis on George Washington & Abraham Lincoln. This battlefield tour will take a closer look at how the Civil War affected the sites of George Washington’s boyhood town. We’ll cover Abraham Lincoln’s historic visit to Fredericksburg. Last, we’ll take a look at how the battle of Fredericksburg served as Lincoln’s instrument for the “Emancipation Proclamation”.

Presidents’ Day Monroe Conversations

Hosted by James Monroe | University of Mary Washington Monroe Hall, room 116 – 1301 College Avenue | Monday, Feb 18 | 6pm – 8pm | Join Ed Jones, former editor of the Free Lance-Star, for a “Meet the President” style interview with James Monroe (historical interpreter James “Jay” Harrison III)! Followed by a reception, and the opportunity to meet President Monroe. This is a free, annual program.

Mary Washington House – 1300 Charles Street | Saturday, February 23 | 11am – 4pm | Enjoy cake, punch and children’s activities while honoring George Washington and his wonderful legacy. Celebrate his birthday with a tour of the Mary Washington House where you will learn about the woman who raised him. Participation included with the cost of admission.
