Nov 9 & 10 | Downtown Fredericksburg Holiday Open House Weekend
Holiday shopping season officially kicks off in Downtown Fredericksburg. Merchants will open their doors with shelves stocked of gifts.

Nov 9 | Memorial Urban Trail Ride
9 am to 12 pm
Ride on horseback through historic downtown Fredericksburg. Bring your own horse.

Nov 9 | Small Business Christmas Expo
11 am to 4pm – Fredericksburg Expo Center
A Saturday of shopping with over 100 local vendors, businesses & crafters. Get a head start on your Christmas shopping or pick something up for yourself, there will be LOTS to choose from. Concession stands will be open, activities for the kids, prize raffles, 50/50 raffles, free Swag Bags for the first 200 shoppers & more!

Nov 9 |Frozen Rides with Olde Town Carriage Tours
12 pm to 2 pm – Leaves from the Visitor Center
Take your little Frozen fanatic on an elegant carriage ride fit only for a princess. Our white and blue frozen carriage will be frozenly decorated! Come ride with Anna and Elsa! Treat and craft included for the kids! $15 for children and $5 for parents. Reservation recommended.

Nov 11 | Fredericksburg Veterans Day Events
10:00am – Walking Procession beginning at Memorial Park to Fredericksburg Area War Memorial. Procession Route: Along Washington Ave. From Mary Ball St. to George St.
10:45am – Veterans Ceremony held at Fredericksburg Area War Memorial
12:00pm – Veteran Resource Fair held at Hurkamp Park

Nov 15 | Fall Concert: UMW Concert Band and Jazz Ensemble
The UMW Jazz Ensemble performs contemporary jazz arrangements as well as standard big band literature. Come join them for an evening of jazz that will be relaxing and inspiring! This event is free and open to the public.7:30 pm – 9:00 pm | Dodd Auditorium

Nov 16 | Gingerbread House Construction Workshop
11 am to 3:30 pm – George Washington’s Ferry Farm
Learn the secrets of building a real gingerbread house! Build and decorate a small gingerbread house step-by-step. All materials are provided. Two sessions: 11 am – 12:30 pm and 2 pm – 3:30 pm. Ages 7 to adults. Children under 14 must be accompanied by a participating adult. Cost: $10 per person. Reservation and payment in advance required. Nov 16 | A Wee Christmas Workshop
2 pm to 4 pm – Historic Kenmore Plantation
Participants will create a holiday themed “room box” using easily accessible materials. Materials provided including take home instruction, ideas, and resources. Room boxes may be displayed at the Wee Christmas Exhibit at Kenmore Dec. 2 – Jan. 13. Ages 8 to adults. $10 per person. Nov 16 | Children’s Christmas Tree Lighting
4 pm to 6 pm – Hurkamp Park
Meet Santa and other holiday characters, make fun holiday crafts, experience live music and story-time and much more! The Fredericksburg Annual Children’s Tree Lighting program is FREE and open to the public.

Nov 23 | Thankful for Fredericksburg
6 pm to 9 pm | Darbytown Art Studio
A unique collaborative art event pairing photographers and painters to create individual pieces of some of Fredericksburg’s most special and iconic places. Participation in the event is free, however we ask that you please bring a canned food donation to support The Table at St. George’s Episcopal Church during the opening reception.

Gari Melchers Home and Studio
Enjoy the house and studio decorated for the holidays in the spirit and style of American painter Gari Melchers and his talented artist-wife Corinne. Included with museum admission during regular hours.

Nov 28 | Coker Family YMCA Turkey Trot Mile

Nov 28-29 | John Frazer Night
6pm – 8pm | Rising Sun Tavern
Rising Sun Tavern Keeper John Frazer died on the property shortly after opening the business in the 1790’s – and some say he never left. Join us for a “spirited” candlelight tour highlighting the life of John Frazer and his alleged afterlife pranks! Thanks to Culpeper Paranormal Investigations, we have new and exciting information to share with you! Don’t miss this eventTimed tours are given each ½ hour. Tickets are $8 for members and $10 for the general public. For the comfort and enjoyment of our guests, RSVP’s are encouraged by purchasing tickets in advance. Tour the Mary Washington House by candlelight in the spirit of an 18th century Christmas. Shop for unique gifts in the museum store while sipping hot cider and sampling Mary Washington’s famous gingerbread. The museum store will be hosting a sale with so many wonderful items to choose from you will be able to cross some holiday shopping off your list! This is a FREE event! Dec 6 |Merry Trees Opening

Fourth annual “Merry Trees” exhibit. FAM’s gallery spaces will be filled with trees decorated by the Hugh Mercer Elementary School students. Each tree is inspired by a book the students have read in the classroom.

Dec 6 | Candlelight Open House
5:30pm – 8pm | Rising Sun Tavern
Come tour this historic property, free of charge, beautifully decorated for the season and vibrant with holiday activity. A holiday tour of the Rising Sun Tavern is a treat for the entire family! Taste seasonal treats and beverages, including Glasgow Punch , see live vignettes of Tavern life, and enjoy the period of tunes of Colonial Faire in the Taproom during this FREE event! Special thanks to Flavors of Fredericksburg for sponsoring our Glasgow Punch. This FREE event is Washington Heritage Museums’ gift to a supportive community! Bring all of your friends and family! Dec 6| A Monroe Christmas Holiday Open House

Dec 6 | Grandparents Holiday Dance

This is a fun way to appreciate the most special grandparents in our lives while celebrating the holiday. Girls and boys 4-12 years old are invited to take their grandmas and grandpas on a special holiday date night! The beloved UMW Holiday Pops tradition returns this year to Dodd Auditorium. The hall will be festively “decked” as the Philharmonic performs new and traditional arrangements that are sure to put you in the holiday spirit. Sugarplum Fairies will dance, and Christmas bells will ring. Warm up your voice for the audience sing-alongs, and get ready for Santa’s entrance!

9:30 am – 12 pm | UMW Hurley Convergence Center, Digital Auditorium
Fredericksburg’s best-known decorator demonstrates how to craft beautiful holiday arrangements from local evergreens and flora in this treasured annual presentation. Refreshments served, and all attendees are entered a drawing to win the decorations created during the event. Advance registration is required. $30/person, $25/person for Friends of JMM.

Dec 7 | Fredericksburg Christmas Parade
5:30pm – 8pm | Downtown Fredericksburg
This year’s theme is “A Futuristic Christmas” and features a variety of traditional parade floats, marching bands and of course Santa with his sleigh! Parade Day: There’s no charge to attend the parade. Bring your own chairs, wear walking shoes and dress for cold weather! It’s a great time to enjoy a parade in downtown Fredericksburg. The parade viewing area is along Caroline and Princess Anne Streets from Wolfe Street to Amelia Street. Dec 8 | Handel’s MESSIAH: UMW Choral Ensembles with the Fredericksburg Community Chorus

The UMW Choral Ensembles join with the Fredericksburg Community Chorus to celebrate its 50th anniversary with a complete performance of Georg Frideric Handel’s 1741 oratorio Messiah.

Dec 8-30 | A Wee Christmas – DollHouses and Miniatures Show
Historic Kenmore
Visit Kenmore this holiday season for an exhibit of highly detailed, replica dollhouses – including the mansion – and miniatures in the Crowninshield Museum Building. Share memories of your dollhouse with your family as you explore life in miniature! Put your mind and eye to the test with our “I Spy Miniatures” challenge – fun for young and old alike! A long-standing holiday tradition! Adults and children alike will enjoy the sights and smells of the festive creations displayed at George Washington’s Ferry Farm! This year’s theme is “Holiday Songs.”

This event will be a spectacular outdoor shopping experience in one of the most beautiful parts of our notable town. These traditional German-style markets are based on the holiday tradition that began in Nuremberg, Germany, dating from the 16th century. Our holiday market will include vendors selling traditional crafts and foods. It is the perfect environment to invoke the holiday spirit while friends, families and neighbors stroll along tents filled with gifts and treats.
