Fredericksburg Region First Day Hikes –

Lake Anna State Park, 6800 Lawyers Rd., Spotsylvania, VA 22551. Visitor Center.

When: January 1, 2020. 11:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.

This year we’re offering two hikes, each an easy 1.5 mile round-trip. After each hike there will be a warm fire for roasting marshmallows, cocoa and cider waiting to greet you upon your return to the Visitor Center. Let us guide your first adventure of the New Year. 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. – Overlook Trail 1 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. – Railroad Ford Trail. This is a great time of year to observe migrating water fowl enjoying a respite on Lake Anna. Please wear comfortable walking shoes, bring water, binoculars and maybe a camera. Limit 25, please pre-register. Motts Reservoir

When: January 1, 2020. 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Enjoy the first day of 2020 out in Nature! Stop by the Motts Run Nature Center for coffee and cocoa before hitting the trail for some trail trivia! Learn something new about nature and earn a prize for your findings. The park and Nature Center will be open from 9:00am to 12:00pm on Wednesday, January 1. FREE admission for all! Motts Run is located at 6600 River Rd, Fredericksburg, VA 22407. Widewater State Park, 101 Widewater State Park Road, Stafford, VA 22554. Visitor Center.

When: January 1, 2020. 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

Join Widewater State Park staff as we start the year off on the right foot with our annual First Day Hike. We will set out on a morning stroll along Long Pond Trail as we discover some of the history of Widewater State Park all while taking in picturesque views of the creek.This hike will be about 1 mile round trip over easy trails and paved road. Pets are welcome, but please keep them on a leash no longer than 6 feet. It is a good idea to dress for the weather and wear sturdy walking/hiking shoes. And don’t forget to bring your camera. The hike will end at our bonfire where the Friends of Widewater will have marshmallows available to roast.
