Marine Corps Historic Half 2019

Race weekend is practically upon us! Between May 17 – 19th, over 9,000 people (runners and guests) are expected to visit the Fredericksburg Region. If you are one of the Marine Corps Historic Half runners or supporters, we’re sure you’ll be looking for places to eat, shop and play! Don’t worry, we have you covered.

Delicious Eats:

FoodE  This local favorite is naming dishes after Fredericksburg gyms and highlighting the unique features of those businesses on their menu ( we can’t wait to try the “bio fitness fried chicken” ). During the morning of the half-marathon, Foode will be teaming up with Paul’s Bakery and handing out “Paul’s Power Balls” to the runners as they pass by.

Spencer Devon Brewing – Try one of their delicious carb heavy dishes and craft beer!

The Olde Towne Butcher – Be sure to stop in for fresh, clean, local, sustainable meats, dairy and sandwiches!

River Rock Outfitter – If you want a jolt to get you up Hospital Hill then stop on by and grab some Stinger Chews and wafers.

Feeling ambitious, try Abner B’s Ice Cream’s Half Marathon – 13.2 scoops of ice cream (half marathon plus a little extra!)

Self Care Before Or After The Race:

The Scenter of Town – Try the Elete Electrolyte Add-in:  All natural trace-mineral supplement to refresh, renew, and revive before and after the race.  Add to any beverage to create a sports drink, or massage into sore muscles!

Lattitudes Fair Trade– Try their Eucalyptus Moringa Mint Muscle Soak after the race!

Whittingham – Clean up after the race with Duke Cannon Soaps. Duke Cannon – Inspired by solders. Benefiting veterans.

After Race Events:

Fredericksburg Area Museum – Check out all new exhibitions featuring the rare and untold stories of Fredericksburg. Learn about Fredericksburg’s complete history from Native Americans to present-day issues.

Picker’s Supply will have a Vintage Guitar Tone Tasting Event and Concert feat. Al Petteway & Amy White.

Connect Games – In addition to your physical challenge, the Historic Half, why not add a mental challenge to your itinerary during your time in Fredericksburg! Now is your chance to come play our one of a kind local escape room right on Caroline Street!  It is a unique adventure unlike any others seen before, as it is based on a true Fredericksburg hero, Richard Kirkland. You must use this time wisely to help Richard Kirkland, known as the Angel of Marye’s Heights, by finding hidden caches of water within your Supply Tent. Test your problem solving skills, decipher codes, and work together as a team to rescue as many soldiers as you can in 45 minutes! Will you answer Kirkland’s call to action? How many soldiers can you rescue at The Battle of Fredericksburg?

Fredericksburg Center for the Creative Arts (FCCA) – Family friendly art exhibitions in the historic “Silversmith House” c. 1785. Open to the public FREE,  Mon., Wed., Thurs., Friday noon – 4 pm, Saturday 11 am to 4 pm, Sunday 1 – 4 pm.
