“Is your house on fire, Clark?”

“No Aunt Bethany. Those are Christmas lights.” – Clark Griswold. National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.

For those of us who take exterior illumination seriously, the holiday season is The Big Show. The real deal. Our time to shine, both literally and figuratively. It’s go time.

Okay well, we aren’t actually experts at hanging Christmas lights. We DO love them, though! We especially love how they make our already charming city seem even more… well… charming.

Here are a few of our favorite places to catch the twinkly glow.

The Villages at Towne Centre– FREE event every night from November 10 – December 24, 6:30pm, 7:30pm, 8:30pm, and 9:30pm. Timed lights adorn the Villages at Towne Centre and its magnificent tree. Let your kids dance to a curated playlist of Christmas carols ( and Disney’s Frozen ), while the lights surrounding you dance along with them too.

Downtown Fredericksburg– There are few things as cozy and nostalgic as downtown Fredericksburg, at Christmastime. We suggest strolling the brick sidewalks after a wonderful meal, hot drink in hand.

Hurkamp Park Did you know our Children’s Christmas Tree is in Hurkamp Park? Be sure to check it out while you’re in downtown and don’t forget to take a few pictures with our life-sized picture frames! The LOVE sign is looking rather festive this time of year, too!

Trolley Lights Tours of Fredericksburg– Celebrate the Christmas season with a trolley holiday lights tour. Hop aboard for a relaxing and fun time. We’ll do the driving while you enjoy the festive light displays and fill the trolley with joyous sounds of Christmas. Tour lasts approximately 1 hour.

Olde Towne Jingle Bell Rides – A family event, rent a jingle bell carriage and take a tour of Fredericksburg during the holidays!  Choose Christmas music or listen to the tour guide tell about Colonial days of Christmas. Two tour routes, lower Caroline or Washington  Ave.

Paul’s Bakery Christmas Light Display –  Mr. Paul has moved the Christmas light display to his house in Confederate Ridge, this year. Rumor has it that the display has also taken over his neighbors’ yards. The address is not made public, but we’re pretty confident you’ll be able to find it.

Lee Hill Auto Service –  Mater, Lightning McQueen and Guido are decked out in Holiday Lights and warm clothes! It’s very cute and perfect for the Disney lover in your life.
