The Fredericksburg region shines brightest in Autumn. You could easily make a whole day out of strolling the historic brick sidewalks downtown, hot drink in hand, leaves changing overhead.  Maybe camping at Lake Anna and watching the sunset, whilst snugged up by a bonfire, is more your jam.  If you’re anything like us, you can’t wait to spend a crisp fall afternoon tasting wine at the gorgeous Potomac Point winery.

Wine by the Lake – Sept 15 – Wine by the Lake is a wine festival held at the Lake Anna State Park right on the shores of Lake Anna. Come sample and purchase wines from 10+ wineries and cideries. Enjoy live music, browse over 40 craft vendors, and eat delicious food local food vendors.

Adventure’s Brewing’s Third Annual Oktoberfest – Sept 15 – Delicious Oktoberfest beer from several of Stafford breweries –Adventure Brewing, 6 Bears & A Goat Brewing Company and Highmark Brewery. Live music, food, events, competitions, The LOW’n’BROWS, S.G.T.E.V. Hirschjäger Bavarian Dancers. Traditional Oktoberfest food such as bratwurst, pretzels and other German foods and local food trucks!716 Slice | Beverley’s Ribinator BBQ | The UFO Truck | Sullivan’s Catering | Cuban Cravings. Local vendors from throughout Stafford and Fredericksburg. As well as activities & competitions with prizes such as stein holding contests, corn hole tournament, bounce houses and more.

Capital Ale House’s Annual Oktoberfest – Sept 29- . Get your fill of Oktoberfest brews from local craft, as well as imported German beers served in a signature Capital Ale House stein. Live, high energy polka music will be performed by the Low Brows, Johnny Koenig and Fritz Polka Band, with entertainment from The Hirschjäger Dancers! Our event is family friendly, and we encourage you to bring the kids! We will have a large Kinderplatz area for the children located at the Fredericksburg Area Museum, with balloon animals, inflatable bounce houses, face painting and more!

They’ll be serving delicious German cuisine including giant Bavarian pretzels, bratwurst, knackwurst, currywurst, sauerbraten and Jaegerschnitzel. Traditional sides of German potato salad, red cabbage, spätzle and sauerkraut paired with the largest selection of Virginia craft and import German style beers. Every Capital Ale House location will be serving these dinner specials in the weeks prior to the festivities as well!

Belvedere Plantation Fall Harvest Festival – Sept 22 – October 28, weekends and weekdays, closed Mondays—A Beloved Fredericksburg tradition! Wagon ride to their iconic Pumpkin Patch, then play in their Maize Maze, Fun Barn, or Zippitydoo. Other activities include the Olde Barnyard, Swine Speedway, Pumpkin Mountain Slide, Jumping Pillow, Barrel Train, Pedal Tractors, Little Farmers Corral, Straw Jump, Trike Track, Spider Web, Ball Zone, Colonel’s Corn Box, and Back 40 Games. There is also a restaurant onsite with delicious fall favorites!

4th Annual Scarecrows Are Coming –Oct 5 -31 – Over 60 scarecrows take over Downtown Fredericksburg! A wide variety of Downtown businesses will design a scarecrow for you to vote for in 4 categories: Historic, Spookiest, Funniest, and Best Use of Business Theme. Ballots/Scarecrow maps can be picked up at any participating businesses. Post your pics on social media with the hashtag: #fxbgscarecrows

Miller Farms Taste of the Market and pumpkin patch opening -October 6th- Come sample many of the items featured at the Market. JoJo’s Kitchen will be open serving pumpkin and apple treats. There are plenty of pre-picked pumpkins to choose from, and the pumpkin patch will be open with free hayrides. Picnic area available as well as a sandpile for the kids to play on. Free Parking. Free Admission. Free Fresh air. See you at the Farm!

Third Annual Courthouse Village Food Truck Rodeo -Oct 6- The village will be filled with food trucks as well as other food vendors with a wide selection of culinary delights. Visit local shops in the village and relax listing to music and a performance by the Courthouse School of Ballet and Christian Youth Theater. The fun begins at 11a.m. voting will end by 2:30p.m. Tables will be available for seating but you are welcome to bring your a blanket or chair to sit on the green. Come hungry, food will be available for purchase at each vendor.

Fredericksburg Farmer’s Market Harvest Festival – Oct. 6th- Children can pick and decorate a pumpkin from the adorable mini pumpkin patch, you can select beautiful fall decor for your home, and participate in fun, kid-friendly activities! Insider tip: Be sure to grab a seasonal coffee or hot cider when you get there!

Halloween Movie Night -Oct 20- 7:00pm. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets to this family-friendly, free movie night, at Hurkamp park! The fist movie will be, “It’s The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown,” and the second will be, “E.T.” Movies Co-sponsored by Fredericksburg Police, Fredericksburg Parks, Recreation & Events, Fredericksburg Parent, Rappahannock Rotary and Fredericksburg Main Street.

Fall Airshow at Shannon Airport – Oct. 25 – The 4th Annual Harvest Festival Airshow at the Shannon Airport will feature the RISE ABOVE Traveling Exhibit. More information to come!

Creatures Of The Night Hike -Oct 26- 6:30pm – 8:00pm -Motts Run Reservoir  *Limited space, must pre-register.* Grab your costumes and walking shoes for a nighttime hike for the whole family! We’ll look and listen for nighttime critters as we seek out trail side treats before returning to hot chocolate, a tasty cup of dirt with worms and a story. Please dress warmly and bring a flashlight! Pre-registration required for everyone. (Kids must attend with paying adult.) Fredericksburg Veterans Day Procession -Nov 11- To honor the contributions of our United States Veterans. Everyone is invited to view the procession along Washington Avenue and then join the Veteran’s Day Commemoration at the Fredericksburg Area War Memorial (George St.). Free admission to the procession and the commemoration. Held rain or shine. Procession Route: Along Washington Ave., from Mary Ball St. to George St.
