Gari Melcher, an internationally-recognized painter in the Impressionist style, spent his last years in Belmont. The Georgian-style house, studio, many gardens and wild spaces form one living, organic portrait.

The main house on the estate, and the studio, are both open for tours that are guided by University of Mary Washington docents.
