The Fredericksburg Area offers a perfect location for military reunions. In addition to the plethora of activities available in the Fredericksburg Area, its close proximity to Quantico Marine Base, Fort A. P. Hill and Washington, D. C., provide exciting day trips, yet allow the participants to take advantage of our more affordable lodging rates.
Your group can spend days visiting the Historic Homes and Battlefields in the area or enjoying the quaintness of Old Town Fredericksburg. Trolley Tours of Fredericksburg (www.fredericksburgtrolley.com) will pick your group up at your hotel and transport you back into an earlier time.
Just 20 miles north of the Fredericksburg Area lies the Quantico Marine Base and home to the National Museum of the Marine Corps, a new state-of-the-art museum with a 210-foot tilted mast and glass atrium inspired by the Flag Raising at Iwo Jima. A 160-foot atrium housing the central gallery, is surrounded by more galleries that will hold permanent and changing exhibits on Marine Corps history, as well as an interactive Boot Camp exhibit. www.usmcmuseum.org
Fifty miles northwest of the Fredericksburg Area near Washington Dulles International Airport is the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, the companion facility to the National Air and Space Museum on the Mall in Washington, D. C. It features a large aviation hangar in which aircraft are displayed on three levels, including the Enola Gay and the SR-71 Blackbird, the fastest jet in the world. The Center also offers an IMAX Theater and food service. www.nasm.si.edu/museum/udvarhazy
Transportation options range from the modern motor coach fleets available in the area to the commuter-rail services offered by the Virginia Railway Express. Both make visiting Washington, D. C., easy and affordable. On VRE a group of 10 or more can save 50% off the single ride fare when you purchase VRE Group Tickets, 1-703-684-1001 or www.vre.org.
