In fields all over Spotsylvania County men fought for their lives as the Northern Troops attempted to destroy the South's Army and break the Confederates as they headed toward the Confederate Capitol of Richmond.On May 19 & 20, 2012, battles will once again rage near Spotsylvania Courthouse during the Battles of Spotsylvania, 2012 Civil War Reenactment. Friday a special discussion with President Jefferson Davis, U.S. Grant and Robert E. Lee starting at 7 p.m. Living history learning experiences starting at 9 a.m. each day, Saturday and Sunday. Learn about agriculture, farming, blacksmithing and life of the civilians. Meet some farm animals and see how a mule or ox works to earn his food. Lectures throughout the day from NPS historians, Tin-type photography, Pres. Davis, and Gen. Lee. Music by 2nd South Carolina String Band and Civil War Sutlers.
