We have made it to the idle doldrums of winter. The days are grey and bitterly cold. We have exhausted all things hygge, and the world seems to carry a fine layer of grit and salt. This is winter’s bottom. The good news is that we are on our way out. The better news is that, regardless of the weather, Fredericksburg buzzes with great food, fun experiences, and amazing energy. Spa Day- Your skin needs a spa day. Trust us. Heck, your mind need a spa day now that we’re on the flip side of the holidays. This goes for gentlemen as well as ladies. Skin Touch Therapy, located on Caroline Street, in downtown, just renovated and it looks amazing. They offer all kinds of spa treatments, massages, facials, and nail care. Tulip Salon and Spa, located in The Spotsylvania Towne Center, offers rejuvenating body treatments, facials, and more. If you’re looking for a spa outside of the city, Massage Envy has locations all over the area. They’re great for a quick massage or facial. If want a more homeopathic approach, look no further then Alternative Therapies and Spa, in Spotylvania. They offer unique treatments and well as a personalized wellness scan. Per their website,“A Health and Wellness Scan is available to identify individual biomarkers for optimal recovery.” The Spa at Eastern is another great Spotsylvania spa to unwind in. It’s a part of Eastern Virginia Career College and offers all kinds of services at a frugal price.

Paint and Sip- There’s just something about long winter nights that call for wine and art. Lucky for us, there are paint and wine classes offered all over the Fredericksburg region. Join a group, go with friends, or take a private class. Just be sure to call ahead to make reservations. A few studios to keep in mind are: Wine and Design, Creative Art Studio, Ponshop, LibertyTown Arts Workshop, Painting With A Twist, and When Pigs Fly.

Museums- This is the perfect time to visit a museum, or get a membership! There are fascinating exhibits happening all over the area. Get to know Fredericksburg history better and see this region in a whole new light. Here are a few museums and cultural centers you must visit: Fredericksburg Area Museum, Hugh Mercer Apothecary Shop, James Monroe Museum and Memorial Library, Mary Washington House, National Museum of the Marine Corps, Shannon Air Museum, Spotsylvania County Museum, Spotsylvania JAIL 1855, White Oak Civil War Museum.

Spirits tour- A.Smith Bowman Distillery has been named “World’s Best Bourbon,” by The World Whiskey Awards for a 2 years in a row. If you imbibe, or know someone who does, do yourself a favor and come see the craftsmanship and care that goes into these spirits. Complimentary tours are offered from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., departing every hour, Monday-Saturday. No need to make reservations unless you have a group of 20 or more.

Theater- What better way to spend a cold winter evening than immersed in a theater production? Make it a family night with CYT (Christian Youth Theater). They will be showing The Lion King Jr. at North Stafford High School, Feb 16-25th. For a more grown up night out, try The Riverside Dinner Theater. Mama Mia is running from Jan 10th -March 4th and The Hunchback of Notre Dame, March 14th- May 6th. Riverside Dinner Theater also has a children’s theater, which showing Young Abe Lincoln, from January 18th- March 3rd. For a more immersive experience, checkout Dinner Murder Mystery. This traveling theater troupe (Entree Act) performs murder mysteries with a Theatre-In-The-Round style. “You, the audience is all around us. There is no stage. There is no set. All the action happens right in front of you.” Stage Door Productions is currently showing Rabbit Hole, at at the Central Rappahannock Regional Library Headquarters, in Downtown Fredericksburg. That shows will run February 15-17, 2018.
